Last time I swung by the studio I had the pleasure of playing a couple of songs from two very talented young women who are still at high school. This week we listen to the music of young Brisbane boy, Jordan Lander.

I had the pleasure of seeing Jordon play at The Round this week and it is clear to see that he takes his songwriting seriously. After working with friend and pianist Robert Hellberg and producer/mentor Daniel Spirovski for two years, Jordan is celebrating the launch of his EPWindmills. 

Mixtures of pop and folk layered with declicate guitar and piano are a beautiful accompaniment to Jordan's clear voice.

The completion of an EP doesn't just represent solely the 'recording' of music, but the evolution and growth of an artist. This has been the case with singer/songwriter, Jordan Lander.

Whilst collaborating with pianist and close friend Robert Hellberg, each song began to take on hues of a classical influence, which resounds in each note, from start to finish. 

It's been a real pleasure and privilege working with Jordan and Robbie on this project and I look forward to the upcoming launch, Saturday 26th November, 2011.

The Royales. Formed in 2010, The Royales have been busy writing, rehearsing and with influences from U2, The Killers, A-ha and 1969, they have created their sound of Indie Rock & Roll. Over the last few months I've been a part of the core team for 'The Round'. With a lot of planning and preparation we launched on Wednesday night 8th June with a full house at the Dowse Bar. 
The Round will be on every Wednesday so make sure you get there!

We had the shoot day at Barsoma in the Valley on Sunday, May 22nd. Jordan wrote a song specifically for the film, Beautiful, which features him and 'his band' with me on Bass, Daniel O'Connell (The Royales) on drums and Robbie Hellberg on Piano. The closing sequence will also feature Jordan's song Cost.

We were fortunate to travel to Melbourne to work with his old friend and revered recording/mix engineer Ernie Rose, who tracked drummer David Beck and guitarist Stuart Fraser (John Farnham, Noiseworks, Dancing with the Stars)

]]><![CDATA['I Create Music' Expo - America Trip]]>Mon, 09 May 2011 00:00:00 -0800http://www.spirovski.com/1/post/2011/05/america-trip.htmlIn April I headed to the USA with friend and artist Jordan Lander to attend the ASCAP 'I Create Music' Expo in Hollywood, LA. This was a great time of soaking up information from the wealth of artists, songwriters, producers and industry professionals like producer/artist Pharell Williams (N.E.R.D), Lindsay Buckingham (Fleetwood Mac) and Sarah Bareilles plus many more.


Here, the thread throughout the conference was that collaboration with other artists and songwriters is essential to creating a fruitful and rewarding career and that while attendees were seeking the coat-tails of those on the stage, we were encouraged to focus more on those around us in the audience who, in the future, will be the ones on stage. As we evolve in our crafts we will have the opportunity to progress with those around us.  

After the conference, i continued onto Nashville which was also my first time driving in the USA.. needless to say i survived and returned the rental car safely! Here I was fortunate to meet with Australian-born producer, Peter King at his Studio in Brentwood, 7 time Grammy-winning mix engineer Paul Salvosen (DC Talk, Israel Houghton) and former Alabaster box member, now producer, Josh Brown. My meetings led me to the opportunity of having a tour of the amazing Paragon Studios in Franklin where Nicole Kidman regularly does her ADR for her movies.

My last leg was to Chicago where is spent time with good friends Light of Love. I also spent time with recording engineer, Roger Heiss. We spent the afternoon at his studio, Tone Zone, where he played me his engineering career highlights from projects including the The Chicago Jazz Orchestra and Grammy-winning Jazz vocalist, Kurt Elling. A highlight was also having a tour of the famed CRC (Chicago Recording Company) where countless artists have recorded including Michael Jackson and Coldplay.

Well that sums up my trip to the USA this time around and i look forward to heading there again for the conference in 2012.

After a long wait since their last album, Light of Love have released their new album Live from Norway. I had the pleasure of being in Norway with Light of Love for the recording and it was a great experience. As they are all sisters their vocal blend is incredible and they were supported by some of the finest gospel musicians in the US.
Being their first live album, they have finally capture their high energy and passionate delivery of their songs which they have written the majority of. Produced by Light of Love and Music Directed by drummer Calvin Rogers (Fred Hammond)
